Herb Terminology: Efflorescence

Picture
The state or period of flowering. The process of developing and blooming. Bursting forth. It’s also a crystalline deposit of salt that’s left behind once the water has evaporated. I really like this word. I feel like I am going through a period of efflorescence right now. Well, most of the time to be real with you. But, lately I have been struggling with feelings of inadequacy. I’ve been feeling like I’m not doing enough for myself and the people I care about. Not doing enough to get the visions of my future in action. Feeling like I’m boring. Like I’m slacking on my personal health, mentally and physically. And then, I woke up remembering I’m a damn boss. And a goddess. And I’m □. I felt a renewed sense of purpose, even though I understand I already have many things to offer to others. We all struggle sometimes with feeling like we aren’t enough or we should be doing more or we should be further along. But, the truth is, we are right on time. I am blooming. I am bursting forth. I am developing and unfolding. I would never say a flower is blooming too slow or that the flower isn’t right on time. I accept the flower exactly how it is. I’m working on accepting me exactly how I am. #efflorescence #words #definition #knowledge #somuchonmymind #noego #raw #open #content #helpyourself #helpothers #kindness #layitontheline #thosewhomatterdontmind #human #soul #soulhavingahumanexperience #openbook #youdontknowme #imatter #mentalhealth #happiness #sojourn #letmeteachyou #ineedopenness #givewhatyouget #perfectionist #calmdown #selflove #selfhelp

Vulnerary herbs help to heal external wounds. They can be used on the body in poultice, ointment, and salve form. Some vulnerary herbs are: Slippery Elm Bark, Comfrey, Plantain, Chickweed, Aloe Vera, Flax, Goldenseal, Oregon Grape Root, Black Walnut, and Horsetail. It’s always a good idea to make these up in a usable form so when you need it, you have it. #vulnerary #herbs #herbalist #wound #healing #comfrey #dandylionemporium #dustigregory #askanherbalist #flax #slipperyelm #plantain #masterherbalist #health #dallasherbalist #dallaslife #dfw #irving #happiness #selfhelp #selfcare #beprepared #ointment #salve #letmeteachyou #knowledge #backtobasics #slanginherbs

Galactagogue: The Science of Mother's Milk

1/16/2020

I made a nice, long, super informative post twice on this picture and both times the World Wide Web forces that be wouldn’t allow me to post it. Does that mean I have arrived?!?! I figure it’s my sign that I have. I mean, if I’m getting censored I must be doing something right 🤷🏽‍♂️. Anywho, I’ll try and post the info in the comments and see how that goes. The thing is, is it was just basic information of women’s bodies and how they work. 🤔 Hmmmm...There, it worked. Here we go!

There are many reasons that a mom might want to use a galactagogue. Maybe she has insufficient milk supply and wants to bolster it. Or, maybe her lil one was premature and has a hard time latching on so she wants to keep her milk going to be able to give the baby the nutrition. In some cases of adoption, the new momma might want to be able to feed her baby. Some mommas just want a good, rich milk supply so they give their baby nuggets the best of it.

Milk Production 101: pregnancy hormones stimulate the growth of your milk ducts. At this point, they increase in size and number and spread throughout the breast tissue. During pregnancy, the endocrine system triggers the body to make colostrum. Colostrum is babies “first milk”. It is produced right after baby is born. It is full of immune factors, fats, carbs, protein, and nutrients that the baby needs. The baby will live on this for the first 2-5 days until the mature breast milk is made. After this, the mom’s milk will “come in”. It takes different moms different amounts of time for this to occur.

During pregnancy, progesterone Levels are high in mothers, but once the placenta is delivered, they drop. This drop signals milk production via the release of prolactin. Mommas need to start nursing as soon as possible to stimulate the prolactin so it will trigger the increase of milk production. So, on average, 2-3 days after the baby is born the breasts will fill with milk. Then, the hormone oxytocin is released. This release causes milk to be pushed out of the breast. At this point milk production is maintained by supply and demand. The more the baby drinks, the more milk momma makes. That’s why allowing babies to suckle could help to keep the supply higher.

Herb Terminology: Expectorant

Picture
An expectorant is an herb or product that enables the body to remove mucus more readily. We traditionally use this word when we are working on the respiratory system such and the lungs. I love using expectorant herbs in tea form because the warm tea further loosens the mucus. The tea also allows the body to thin the secretions so they are easier to move out. We have all seen people who have lots of mucus but can’t seem to move it up and out of the bronchi and lungs. Have a couple cups a day if you need or some people with acute issues of lots of mucus might have half a cup every hour or so until the body is responding well to it. #tea #herbs #expectorant #herbalist #lung #lungs #bronchi #trachea #slanginherbs #masterherbalist #mucus #bronchitis #cleansing #alkaline #selfcare #herbalhealing #dallasherbalist #irvingtx #healing #lungsupport #vitality #herbstotherescue #intuitivehealing #naturespharmacy #natural #herbstore #bulkherbs #letmeteachyou #evolving #detox

Herb Terminology: Diaphoretic

Picture
Diaphoretic herbs are herbs that help the body to produce perspiration to help the skin to eliminate toxins. This is good when the temperature of the body is up because it is working on killing off microbes and such. When we allow the skin to release toxins it takes a burden off of the system. It will help us to get the body cleansed at a more efficient rate if our elimination channels are overworked at the time. #diaphoretic #sweatitout #yarrow #hyssop #herbalist #masterherbalist #slanginhetbs #cayenne #lemonbalm #boneset #butchersbroom #elder #elderflower #irvingtx #dallasherbalist #knowledge #letmeteachyou #conscious #evolving #continuetolearn

Herb Terminology: Conflate

Conflate (Verb). To blend together. To mix together into one thing. We constantly conflate in our day to day life. We conflate two families into one when we are in love. The mixing of the perfect herbs and spice ingredients for dinner. How the ocean and fresh water conflates to make brackish water. My daughter and I painted yesterday and we made new colors from the ones we already had. We conflate when we blend together our new ideas with the ones we already own. I hope your new ideas allow you more happiness, compassion for others and room to grow even more. We conflate the songs of old with the news ones. Now a days it’s a good thing to borrow from the musical talent of another. Conflate new information into your mind so you’re always growing and if you conflate some good food, send me a lil helping ;) #wordadaycampaign #conflate #mix #blend #words #knowbetterdobetter #knowledge #somuchonmymind #letmeteachyou #togetherwearemore #slanginherbs #dandylionemporium #dallasherbalist #dusti #happy #livinglifeonmyterms #affirmations #manifest
