Dear Happy-Feeling friends, As a seasoned herbalist, I'm thrilled to share with you some natural ways to boost serotonin, our body's own mood-lifting neurotransmitter. Serotonin plays a crucial role in our overall well-being, influencing mood, appetite, and even sleep. Here are some gentle and effective remedies from the world of herbs to help brighten your days: St. John's Wort: This cheerful yellow flower is renowned for its mood-boosting properties. It's been used for centuries to alleviate symptoms of low mood and anxiety. You can brew it into a soothing tea or find it in supplement form. However, be sure to consult with a healthcare professional before use, especially if you're taking other medications. In herbalism, we do not use St. John’s Wort if someone is on SRRI medication for depression etc. Lavender: Ah, the calming scent of lavender! Not only does it help ease stress and promote relaxation, but it may also support serotonin production. Enjoy its fragrance in essential oil diffusers, herbal baths, or as a gentle herbal tea before bedtime. Turmeric: This vibrant spice doesn't just add flavor to your dishes; it also contains curcumin, a compound that may enhance serotonin levels. Incorporate turmeric into your cooking or sip on golden milk for a cozy and uplifting treat. Passionflower: Just as its name suggests, passionflower can ignite a sense of tranquility and well-being. This beautiful vine has been used traditionally to ease anxiety and promote restful sleep. Enjoy it as a tea or look for supplements at your local health store. Rhodiola: Sometimes called "golden root," rhodiola is an adaptogenic herb known for its ability to support the body during times of stress. By helping to balance stress hormones, rhodiola may indirectly support serotonin levels, promoting a more balanced mood and energy levels. Chamomile: A classic herbal remedy for promoting relaxation and easing tension, chamomile is a gentle yet effective way to soothe the mind and body. Sip on chamomile tea during moments of stress or before bedtime to unwind and support serotonin production. Exercise and Sunlight: While not herbs per se, regular exercise and exposure to sunlight are natural ways to boost serotonin levels. Engaging in physical activity releases endorphins and promotes feelings of happiness and well-being. Likewise, soaking up some sunlight helps regulate our body's internal clock and encourages serotonin production. I hope these natural remedies help you on your journey to a brighter and more balanced mood. Remember, incorporating these herbs and lifestyle practices into your routine can be a gentle and nurturing way to support your mental health. As always, listen to your body and consult with a healthcare professional if you have any questions.

As February blossoms with love and wellness, there's no better time to explore the nurturing embrace of hawthorn for heart health. Known for centuries as a gentle yet potent ally for cardiovascular wellness, hawthorn offers a bouquet of benefits to support your heart's vitality and resilience. Allow me to guide you through the sweet symphony of hawthorn and its profound impact on heart health. At the heart of hawthorn's healing prowess lies its ability to promote cardiovascular wellness through various mechanisms. Firstly, hawthorn berries, leaves, and flowers are rich in flavonoids, potent antioxidants that help protect the heart from oxidative stress and inflammation. These compounds work with synergy to strengthen the walls of blood vessels, enhance circulation, and promote healthy blood pressure levels, fostering overall cardiovascular resilience. Embracing hawthorn into your wellness routine is as delightful as it is beneficial. One of the simplest ways to enjoy its heart-healthy benefits is by brewing a nourishing hawthorn tea. Infuse dried hawthorn berries or leaves in hot water for a soothing and comforting elixir that gently supports your heart's well-being. Sip this fragrant brew throughout the day to nurture your cardiovascular health with each delightful sip. Another delightful way to incorporate hawthorn into your daily routine is by crafting heart-loving herbal infusions. Combine hawthorn berries with complementary herbs like hibiscus, rose hips, and ginger for a vibrant and uplifting blend that invigorates the senses while nourishing the heart. This refreshing infusion can be enjoyed hot or cold, providing a burst of flavor and vitality with each sip. For those with a sweet tooth, hawthorn offers a deliciously nutritious addition to heart-healthy treats. Whip up a batch of homemade hawthorn berry jam, sweetened with honey or maple syrup for a guilt-free indulgence that satisfies both the soul and the palate. Spread this vibrant jam on whole-grain toast or drizzle it over yogurt for a delightful burst of flavor that nourishes your heart with every bite. In conclusion, as we celebrate the month of love and wellness, let us embrace the heart-healing power of hawthorn with open arms. Whether enjoyed as a soothing tea, invigorating infusion, or delectable treat, hawthorn offers a symphony of wellness for your cardiovascular health. May you savor each sip and bite, knowing that you are nurturing your heart with the sweet embrace of nature's bounty. Don’t take more than 25% of the plants in any given area. Ever. Be responsible. Do take some and taste them and use them. That’s the way to get to know what plants are around you to utilize. I love to make fresh plant tinctures of herbs. I always have alcohol and glycerine available so I’m prepared. This is a great way to have on hand herbs I want to use throughout the year. Purslane is a wonderful lil treat to throw into a salad the day you harvest it. Most of the dandelions that I get now a days go to my tortoise because they love them so much! (I still sneak a couple leaves for myself). Some of these I’ve never personally found so I would love to try them all. #wildfood #spring #forage #herbs #nutritious #herbalist Shout out to our local amazing Nursery, Doan’s Nursery on Beltline in Irving.
I’ll never stop shouting out other businesses. I’ll always want everyone to succeed. I’ll always send you in the right direction, even if I don’t benefit monetarily. I’d like to see more of this. Tell me of other small businesses that you love. What are they doing that catches your eye? How are they solving a problem? Don’t be greedy, there is way more than enough for everyone. Way more than enough. So, if you’re looking for some plants: food, medicinal and pretty ones too, go visit them. (And bring me back one while you’re at it). I’ll thank ya forever 🌱🪴this is just some of it. They have a lot of greenhouses in the back ![]() Nature provides. When wild harvesting plants, remember to only take a small portion of them. Take no more than 25% of the crop. This is to insure it can regrow and also so creatures like bees can feed off of them as well. These are for my tortoise, Eulard. And I’m going to slide some into my green smoothie in the morning as well. Every single part of Dandelion is edible from her flowers, to her stems, to her leaves, and even her roots. Go out and forage and see what you can find around where you live.
